'Salut d'Amour' was originally a work for solo Violin and Piano by Edward Elgar, going by the initial title of 'Love's Greeting' of Liebesgruss, owing to the German-speaking fluency of the work's dedicatee Caroline Alice Roberts, with who Elgar was in a relationship with at the time of composition.
